Brunswick’s diverse community will be startled to learn that Federal and State parliamentarians plan to join the far-right World Congress of Families conference in our neighbourhood this weekend.
The World Congress of Families (WCF) has reportedly booked a venue in Brunswick for this Saturday’s conference.
This comes after increasing protests against their anti-science and anti-diversity agenda appear to have forced the group to change from their original Glen Iris venue.
This is the same WCF event that is backed and endorsed by many State and Federal MPs, including Government Senate Leader Eric Abetz, who endorsed conference speakers' false assertions that abortion is linked to breast cancer. The evidence for this assertion is reviewed here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15051280
Other MPs in attendance will include Federal Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews, who is an international ambassador for WCF and will open and close the conference; State Attorney General Robert Clark; and anti-abortion Government upper house MP Bernie Finn.
The Greens have called for the Abbott government to ban its ministers from attending the conference, and the Napthine Government should also do so.
WCF positions are anti-diversity and anti-women’s rights, and use fantasy science in scare tactics to promote their agenda.
They have no place in Brunswick’s diverse community.
